The most shocking thing about actress Rose McGowan is that she hasn’t done anything shocking lately. She broke off her engagement to out-there rocker Marilyn Manson, ditched her goth getups and dyed her black hair red because, she says, ” I was tired of looking like myself.”

But despite her seemingly revamped image, the 29 year-old swears she hasn’t changed. “People thought [I was wild] because of who I was with [Manson]. In reality I’ve been home baking cupcakes.”

She may be shedding her scary rep, but Rose, best known for Scream and Jawbreakers, is still specializing in spooky roles. Last season she replaced Shannen Doherty on the WB’s Charmed playing long lost half-sister, Paige Matthews.

She admits the witch stuff can get silly (“I still feel like a goofball saying spells”), but the real challenge is her character’s active love life.

“I had to do a kissing scene when I had food poisoning. I was just trying not to throw up on the guy.” In real life, Rose is single, but she says she’s cool with it. “I’m having a blast. Who knows maybe its the red hair.”
